About Chef Tate

Chef Tate Joseph Roussel was a distinguished culinary professional known for his significant contributions to the culinary arts and education. Born in Baton Rouge, he had a dynamic upbringing due to his stepfather's role in the Coast Guard, which led him to live in various places including Mobile, Alabama; Washington, DC; Virginia Beach; New Orleans, and Miami.

His educational background is impressive, with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition from Louisiana State University, and further culinary qualifications from Le Cordon Bleu where he earned the prestigious Le Grand Diplome. His work extended beyond traditional culinary roles, venturing into food science research, particularly in lipid chemistry with a focus on fortifying foods with Omega-3,6 fatty acids.

Tate Roussel's professional journey was marked by his tenure as a Food Science teacher at Clear Springs High School for around six years, followed by his role as the director of the Clear Creek Independent School District’s culinary arts program for five years.

His approach to culinary arts was deeply rooted in the belief that food should taste authentic, advocating for simplicity and respect for each ingredient's journey from its origin to the plate. He had high expectations for perfection from both himself and his students, emphasizing the importance of learning from failures and mistakes as long as they stemmed from passion, desire, and dedication to the culinary arts.

Chef of the House

Together with his wife, Kathleen Roussel, Tate co-founded "Chef of the House," a cooking school in League City, Texas, driven by their shared passion for cooking and teaching. The school offered a variety of cuisines and classes catering to different age groups and skill levels, promoting cooking as an accessible and enjoyable art.

Their vision was to demystify cooking, encourage creativity, and foster a sense of community through their classes.
